Starting from the academic year 2009-2010 the Department of Computer Science and Technology operates and organizes a

program of postgraduate studies leading to a Master of Science degree (MSc) in the field of Computer Science. The following subject areas are offered:

  • Theoretical Computer Science
  • Software Systems
  • Computer Hardware and Networks
  • Computational Science

The goals of the program are summarized as follows:

  • The promotion of knowledge and the development of research in Computer Science and related fields.
  • The specialization in areas of Computer Science that will allow MSc holders to have increased professional qualifications in the related fields.

Duration of Studies

The minimum duration of the MSc program is three (3) semesters. During the first two semesters the postgraduate student takes courses and in the third semester he/she carries out the Master thesis. In exceptional cases the maximum duration may reach five (5) semesters.

Admission Criteria and Deadline for Applications

Graduates of Departments of Faculties of Science and Polytechnic Schools which are domestic or are foreign but are recognized as equivalent and graduates of Departments of Faculties of Technological Applications can be accepted in the MSc program.

The maximum number of entrants is determined each year in the announcement of the program based on the needs of the Department but it cannot exceed 35.  Depending on the qualifications of the applicants, it is not necessary that all positions are filled.

The selection of the applicants is made by the Special General Assembly of the Department after the recommendation of the Graduate Student Selection Committee taking into account all data that will result from the submitted documents of each applicant.

Master's Degree Requirements

In order to obtain the MSc degree the postgraduate student must (a) fulfill the fundamental knowledge requirement as defined in the regulations of postgraduate studies, (b) be successfully examined in at least six (6) postgraduate courses and (c) undertake and complete a Master thesis in the chosen area.
